After season three’s two-part release on May 16 and June 13, Bridgerton is still holding strong as a top show on the streaming service. And with its growing list of merch, gifts and brand collaborations, it’s safe to say the franchise is a full-blown cultural phenomenon.

The Shondaland smash hit, which first premiered on Netflix in December 2020, is based on the eight-part historical romance book series by Julia Quinn, published between the years of 2000 and 2006.

Season one of the Netflix show is based on Quinn’s first book of the series: The Duke and I. Bridgerton season two, released in March 2022, is based on The Viscount Who Loved Me, the series’ second book. The brand-new season is based on the fourth novel: Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

Bridgerton Associated Books

In addition to the eight core novels in the series, there are a number of associated books set in the Bridgerton world.

Published in 2013, The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After offers updates on all the main characters, referred to as the “2nd Epilogues,” and includes a bonus novella titled Violet in Bloom.

The Rokesbys series, otherwise known as the Bridgerton Prequels, is a collection of four novels set before the Bridgerton series, focusing on the Rokesby family and featuring younger versions of many of the Bridgerton characters. The novels include Because of Miss Bridgerton (2016), The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband (2017), The Other Miss Bridgerton (2018) and First Comes Scandal (2020).

The Further Observations of Lady Whistledown and Lady Whistledown Strikes Back are two anthologies featuring the Bridgerton character Lady Whistledown. The former was originally published in 2003 and the latter in 2004, and co-written by Julia Quinn, Mia Ryan, Karen Hawkins and Suzanne Enoch.

Finally, in 2023, Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes co-wrote Queen Charlotte, another Bridgerton prequel. It’s inspired by the 2023 Shondaland series on Netflix titled Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
